The pain or numbness and tingling that you are experiencing in your legs and feet or arms and hands could be the result of pinched nerves in your lower back caused by arthritis and poor disc spacing.

You may have heard of the term osteoarthritis or degeneration and may have even been given this diagnosis by your doctor.  The terms simply mean wear and tear or deterioration of a joint.  One of those joints in the lower back consists of two vertebrae and a disc made of cartilage.  The disc provides cushion and space between the vertebrae.  Your spinal nerve’s exit on each side of these deteriorated discs, travel through your pelvis, down your legs, and end at your feet.

When the disc deteriorates it becomes dehydrated and loses its ability to receive vital nutrients.  The decrease in water and nutrient level causes the disc to lose it height and proper motion.  So what do you think happens to the space for the spinal nerves?  You guessed it; the loss in disc height causes limited space for the nerve leading to poor electrical communication between your nervous system and your legs and feet. This whole scenario may be the cause of your neuropathy also known as numbness and tingling.

Spinal Traction aims to restore disc spacing and height taking unwanted pressure off of the spinal nerves and improve motion of the joint.  This ultimately allows your nervous system to communicate with your legs and feet more freely and your numbness and tingling may subside over the course of a treatment plan.  Additionally pain levels decrease and a patients range of motion improves.  All of these positive results allow you to get back to living a normal life.

Spinal Decompression therapy is a gentle treatment that pulls the lumbar or cervical spine apart and back together over the period of a 15-20 minute treatment.  During this progression the pulling and closing of the spine will cause a sponge like effect on the disc allowing water and nutrients to imbibe the cartilage.  Over the course of a treatment plan recommended by the doctor this effect will allow for disc healing and increase the height of the disc, essentially reducing pressure off of the spinal nerves.
